That’s part of design
1st row is for adding additional users

and 2nd row is for subject.

I will provide some custom css shortly to display them inline.

You can use following for quick fixes

#messages-layout .acfb-holder .selected-user.friend-tab {
  margin-right: 17px !important;
  width: 200px;
}
#messages-layout .acfb-holder li {
  display: inline-block;
}
