I’ve been trying to diagnose this issue for hours and narrowed it down to this:

With the Twenty Fifteen theme active with BuddyPress and BuddyBoss Media the only active plugins, uploading photos breaks with Mobile Rotation Fix checked in the settings.

When I uncheck it, uploads work fine. Testing done on a desktop with Chrome and Firefox on Linux.
